E85 Conversion Kits

Which means that more corn is being used for ethanol which is going to make the price of corn go up, which means more expensive food. It also takes more than one gallon of oil to make one gallon of ethanol.
Or we could reduce subsidies, allow more famers to grow corn, which would increase the suppy of corn.

on a side note, this was just built outside of my town.

I think that producing ethanol from prairie grasses would be better than from corn. The only part of corn that is used for ethanol is the kernal. If they would use prairie plants, they could use the whole plant, not just a small part of it like corn. Grasses do not need to be replanted every year like corn does, it grows on its own. There is also no maintenence like corn. All you need to do is mow it and bale it. This would cut down on a lot of the fuel costs associated with corn. The environment would benefit too. The prairie would be habitat for wildlife allowing more animals to live there. Rivers would also be cleaner and flood less often/severely than they do now.

One downside however is less land for crop production which would raise the price of food. But if it would make my gas cheaper, give me more animals to hunt, and cut down on flooding, I could pay a little bit more for my meals.

so spend millions of dollars trying to figure out a way to use prairie grass instead of corn.... if only it was that easy ppl would be using thier trash as a combustive like back to the future. unfortunetly its not that easy. reguardless everything is gonna use some sort of oil. but cutting down the amount of oil is what they are looking at.

When we first got E85 around here it was about $0.50/gal more than regular 87octane. After a few months of nobody buying it the price came down to $0.10/gal less than 87octane so I decided to try out some in my '06 Flex Fuel Yukon. My gas mileage dropped from 18mpg to 13mpg and there was an immediate huge loss in horsepower. With such a huge drop in gas mileage I ended up paying more money in the long run. E85 will have to become considerably cheaper for me to ever use it again.
