Dynamat Neccesary?

Hey all,

I just bought a totally new system and i am so pumped to install this piece. The only issue is that i was educated by my uncle who has all of this old school sound equipment. I just got my first car and i am putting a nice system into it as we speak.

I have a question about Dynamats:

Are they necessary? Do they really help? Are they worth the small investment?

I have Rockford Fosgate Components and Alpine (Model: SPS-170A??)

What is the advantage of dynamat.

Yes its a must, and its very necessary for long term bump-age, advantages is that you wont get those lose screws down the road and that nasty sqeeks when your bass goes off.

are you talking about your doors? if so deadening (dynamat) will help increase the midbass. it also helps when doing a truck to reduce rattles, and potentially increase the spl inside the car.

You can definitely do it yourself.

It's like peeling the plastic off of the cheese and putting it on the bread without getting air bubbles between the bread and the cheese. Just don't go cleaning the bread with rubbing alcohol or other cleaners.

Nice analogy steve, well he's close, he just forgot the step where you rip a stuck piece of bread from the wall first. Getting the door panels off can be a ***** and a half, especially in newer cars.

yeah, sounds like i could easily do this myself, i dont think my parents (title owners of the whip) would like this. I just called a pro installer and he asked me if i wanted it just around the speaker, or the whole door. whats your opinion?

by the way, that analogy is awesome...just awesome. i can just imagine peeling cheese right now

Well I would say the whole door, just around the speaker would help, but if you're gonna do it you may as well do it the right way first. The thing with having an installer do it is he will want to use his own products which 98% of the time will be dynamat. So it will end up costing you a ton to have done.

Well, putting Dynamat around the speaker isn't hard. The hard part is getting the door panel off without breaking stuff and getting it back on properly. Some cars are easier than others. What type of vehicle is it?
