Dumb things you have heard?

If you want to know how good jl is (for spl and subs not amps) know that I've always seen them murdered by Kicker.
SPL not SQ retards so don't even start that. The fact of the matter is 80%(made up statistic to represent 'most') of the people that buy JL do so because it is 'loud'. It isn't and gets itself handed by much cheaper equipment. Kicker idiots do the same, buying it because its loud, but then they spout off that it sounds good. To an extent, maybe, in the term most use it, definitely not.
Scotty Johnson used to wear peoples ***** out with W7s at dB Drag world finals in a relatively conventional SPL style wall. BTW as a side note, that was the best looking SPL vehicle ever.

Gary Biggs won his expert class in SQ not too many years ago with a sealed 10L7 for sub bass.

The JL can be manipulated acoustcally to stomp plenty of systems using the same diameter subs, just as the L7 can be acoustcally manipulated to win world class level SQ competitions.

definitely loud. doubt he plans to enter any sq comps. more of a demo ride.
quite honestly, the 18x's aren't 1/5 as musical as the 10s or 12s. I would never use them for anything but a burp vehicle. I bet my 6 12 build will be considerably louder than that Hummer, and sound much better doing so.

had a guy at the local street races a few months ago tell me about one of his friends who has an 18" solo x ran off a warhorse that did a 168, asked him what kind of electrical upgrades the guy has and he said just a 10 farad cap. I couldn't help but laugh at him
Sounds legit. I need 3 300s and 12 batteries to run my 2 Warhorses...shoulda bought a couple of 10farad caps

Its pretty easy to sound musical when the install is performed by the likes of Gary Biggs, and judged at 126db.

How many cubes of space do you have under your pickup's back seat?
Shops were right, unless he built a box that utilizes behind the seat too. L7s like big boxes, squelching those 12s would yeild less output and less lows than giving the 10s closer to recommended volume

1.25 per sub is recomemded sealed by kicker
So accounting for the subs' displacement, bracing, wood thickness, and extra room to allow for excursion... you have 3.25-3.5 cubes of usable space under your rear seat? Im no expert on under-seat enclosures, because I personally do not like them... but its sounding more and more like that local shop was exactly correct.

If space were sufficient, i would take the SoloX 18" over the 10" or 12" for SQ anyday. It is much more tame and way easier to manipulate. The HP per square inch is way lower on the 18 than the other two.......means way less you have to correct acoustically.

Realistically, it was EQ'd and time aligned to death....but that was beside the point i was making with that particular guy....lol. he had it mounted in a 1+ cube sealed enclosure, in front of the dash, in the engine bay, mounted to the firewall and was basically a sphere. Looked like the firewall had a horrendous hemorrhoid. A gorgeous hemorrhoid mind you......designer hemmie maybe!

its actually meca. whats his name and what class is he running.
It could have been Mecca! They have competitions too you know.....camel races, curry scarfing contests, hummus eating world championships, mideast regional IED rigging championships, dull knife decapitation invitationals, human stampedes, hell....even the Stone A Bitsche to Death Olympics!

I think you are reinforcing my point... a SQ championship using a specific product is not a good measuring stick for that product's ability to sound musical. Again, with the expertise of a Gary Biggs, and only being judged at 126db, many non musically oriented drivers can be successful in competition. Gary used an L7 because his sponsor is (was?) Kicker. If he was independent, I think I can safely guarantee that he would have chosen a different subwoofer for his SQ system.
