dumb question - running 2 different subs at the same time

I've heard not to do it - haven't been able to recall if I've been told why

question is regarding these 2 *almost* identical ti's I have - the prototype and the stock production line one

same size subs - both 12 - same motors (so far as I can tell) - different soft parts with same cone, different surrounds, different spiders, might be the same coils (are the same ohm load though dual 4)

both would be in the same ported box most likely - would be the same chamber - *might* be in a dual sealed box - if that case would be split chamber

run off same mono amp regardless of setup

If you must run both use separate chambers. Mixing different drivers will have unpredictable results. If the specs are similar it wouldn't be too bad, but if they're a lot different they won't work together properly.

Different spiders means a lot. First of all, you could never wire them together (in series or parallel), and even though they have the same nominal impedance, their different suspension will lead to different excursion which will lead to different impedances which would cause unequal power distribution from the amp.

This, along with running different diameter subs, or different makes/models, all lead to the same problem, erratic frequency response. Predictability is important when tuning a system for sound quality.
