Dumb question regarding multiple speakers

okay im curious.

i see people with like 5 or 6 door speakers sometimes, i would like to add an extra tweeter and component speaker but i do not know what you need? do you just wire them up in series and go back to the same crossover or do u just hook them together orrr... idk how it works

You cannot have multiple speakers, like 2 mids instead of 1, hooked up to a crossover b/c the impedance will double/halve and effectively change the crossover point. You have to parallel or run in series BEFORE the crossover...which in your case would mean buying another set of components and running them to the same amp channel (parallel).

agreed. most of those multi-woofer doors are purely show. some are functional but phase issues abound. some just want as many speakers as they can to be as loud as they can regardless of how it sounds.

for the cost of multiple woofers you can invest in a better pair and be better off in both output and quality.

if you buy a second comp set and install both, you'll use the respective crossovers and just parallel the crossover inputs. don't wire anything in series. verify your amp can handle the reduced impedance load. most likely it won't sound as good but it will be louder.

If you buy just tweeters, be sure they include crossovers or buy a set of crossovers to run with them. If you don't, you can very easily burn them up by running them full pass. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

okay so i'm running off my stock HU i'm not using an amp FYI

Offtopic: whats a cheap quality 2channel amp? 100 watts rms i would say. i think my component are 4ohm annd tweets are 2ohm, idk what the crossover input is though.

BUT somehow i have 2 burnt tweeters and thought it was 1, ,emailed the company and they shipped me 1 but NOOO it was both FMl idk how i missed it. so...

i would like some tweeters because tbh the midbass isn't too important to me!

No, I don't mean active crossovers.... I mean passive. If you end up buying an amp, it won't have a high enough HPF for use with the tweeters without using another crossover. You could drive your mid-bass with it however.

Most tweeters don't like to see anything below 3000hz or so.....Horn tweeters and some super tweeters would be an exception.

You can also add a capacitor to cut feq's below a certain point...

What speakers do you have? You want more power, not more speakers. With a good xo and tweeter you should be able to use most any amp to power them. I'd think clipping would kill tweets, so getting an amp would be high on my list of things to do. second would be to replace the component set with a better one.

This is your answer. Unless properly designed multiple speakers covering the same bandwidth will create issues. You are better off spending your money on a better set of components.

I will say there are exceptions to the rule, I've seen multiples sound really good... but I wouldn't count on it randomly happening. If you really want to go that route I'd look for some expert help. Coming from a home audio background I can tell you, speaker design is voodoo.
