Duct tape for fiberglassing

Has anyone used duct tape when making a fiberglass sub enclosure as to the normal masking tape, blue painters tape, or tinfoil??? I think I read somewhere that someone tried it with great success but can't seem to find it now.

yes, resin doesn't stick to it.

The reasone people use blue painters tape is becuase it pulls off easilly. Duck tape will be very hard to pull off.

But if the resin doesn't stick to the duct tape, it doesn't matter.

So is that good or bad??? Obviously the mold will be easier to pull out, but if I am doing a vertical section, is all my resin going to run to the bottom and puddle up or will it stay on the sides enough to make a mold???

I used it vertical, worked fine.

you dont want to use just duct tape. people use blue painters tape because it pulls off of the surface you're making the mold of very easily. Duct tape wont. When making any mold with fiberglass, you want to use a release agent (vaseline (my favorite), ky lube, pam, wd-40).

duct tape will work just fine It peels off uber easy.

when you peel off duct tape off of something like a dashboard or whatever, it'll sometimes leave that sticky residue. Blue painters tape won't. But both would work fine, i just think you may save yourself hassle using painter's tape.

this is true, by why not save the hassle and get the blue stuff. i bet it's cheaper as well.

i had great success using just plain old masking tape, and it was ton cheaper than that blue stuff, came off easy and after having it taped up for nearly 2 weeks and parking it in the sun, very little residue was left behind... and everything peeled off very easily

I used some duct tape to form my center console and it worked uber great.
