ok i gots dual batt setup, I have a stock wet cell batt under the hood and a kinetik hc2400 in the trunk, at first i didnt think it was going to a problem, but i have noticed one is drainin from the other and its killin my stock batt. So my question is do i have to get another kinetik batt up front?? Would it matter what size the batt is or does it just matter whats it made of? Thanks for the help.

maybe the one up front is goin bad... i had a sp1700 up front with two hc 2400's in the back and never had a problem but the bad thing about isolators is that you loose .4 volts.

i know they work but you just lose the .4 volt and if you amp is rated at 14.4 that sorta sucks donkey dong...
yeah isolators are out of the question, yes the stock batt is very tiny but I thought I read somewhere that you have to have the same internals of the batts to work together, like matt/matt or wet/wet cell and so on im just looking for confirmation.

thats true, i think the stock one will start to de charge since its most likely wet cell and the kinetiks are matt...

How can you tell the front one is going dead? The two are connected by your main power wire to the rear and then both grounded to chasis right? Voltage should be the same at both batteries.

Yes, what he said. Hopefully you dissconnected them before testing. You should not run two different types, one old & one new, two different ratings and etc.. batteries together/ inline. The weeker battery will drain the newer/ higher rated battery.

If you dont use an isolator you should really use the same model batteries or one will always draw from the other. With bigger batteries you dont notice as much cause they hold so much more but it still does happen. I would suggest another 2400 up front.

is it not .7? or am i mistaken

and anytime your doing dual batts, 2 things need to happen, an isolator, which you already mentioned is out of the question, or both batts have to be of the same kind make and model, and one cannot be brand new and the other old, or else one will back drain the other which is exactly what is happening

I called Kinetik and got this answer: The batteries need to be the same TYPE. To be INSIDE A VEHICLE CABIN, AGM. He didn't say it had to be Kinetik or both 1800's, just the same type.

Isolator's are not the quick answer to all battery problems, btw.

get a relay, well it was either relay or isolator i was told. not sure, but anyways connect the batts like that instead of straight together. if you do it straight together, then youd need 2 of the same exact battery at the same exact year, ie: new

the old small one will draw from bigger new one.

ps. click my sig link plz
