Dual 6 ohm? WTF???

What would possibly make audiobahn decide to make their alum12q a dual 6 ohm sub? i mean, you have the options of 3 ohms and 12 ohms. 12 ohms is so much resistance it's not gonna give you anything, and even 3 ohms has problems. it's not stable on a lot of 2 channel amps, and still wont give you the power you'd get from a 2 or 1 ohm wiring. so please, someone tell me why they did this. and also, what amp i should get to power this b*tch. (just one sub)

JL's been doing that for years... never made sense to me then, still doesn't. The idea is that amps are usually over-engineered, and when being used, drivers only hit their nominal (rated) impedence at or around their resonant frequency - thus the idea is that you drive the amps a bit harder, and are usually still above 4 ohms while in use. You only overdrive during the short moments that the subs are at their resonance. Too bad I'd rather not overdrive at all, myself...
