Summary:

I'm considering selling my HTC Droid Eris/Hero and buying the original Droid dirt cheap off ebay and using the same contract. Yay or Nay?

Full Article:

I have a Droid Eris and I'm pretty much tired of it. Figured I'd get over the no keyboard thing but I never did and the vibration is weak so I hardly know when I'm getting a call or text. Dialing actual phone calls on the phone is a pain as well due to the touch pads weak response rate. I'm not one to sit and text all day so I figured i'd be fine settling but I feel like I could do better. No flash on cam, lags, battery life, you name it. I've got no reason to have my heart set on the first Droid but I've never heard a bad thing about it. And since there's been 1,204 other Droids released since the first, I figure I could get it for super cheap. I am committed to version but not the Droid really. Like I said, I'm a occasional texter, I'm not huge on apps but I use the ones I like frequently. Any thoughts, questions or opinions are appreciated.

While an upgrade, the original droids keyboard is really flat and can take alot of time to get used to, if at all. I never use it though it got a little better for me. I'm rooted and overclocked and love it, never any lag. I'd go for it though, I've heard/read/known people that all went from an eris to a d1 and loved it. Tons of new phones will be coming out this year that will make the current flagships look like todays lowend android phones, so I think if you can grt a droid cheap to hold you over till ulgrade time, go for it.

So long as you dont pay too much I went from hero (was meh, basically the eris, laggy too, ) to the moment (3hrs of battery FUUUUUU) to the evo (just got it yesterday but sofar so win) Nobody complains about the D1 though, everyone i know likes it and the battery is ok too i spose. Gotta root and rom it though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I'm considering $45 to be my limit at the moment and seeing where that goes. I remember your Hero back when I first had the pleasure to work with ya, didn't know you've upgraded twice all ready. I did some research on R&R and it seems simple enough. Only downside seems to be shorter batt life? Must say its worth it tho. Slayer seems pleased by the results, hopefully i have the same feelings afterwards +My bro likes ze Evo so far as well.

fucking 49ers.
Yeah, they stink man. Tho, I'm a Bengals fan so I can't really talk.

I'm pissed at these droid phones. ******* got one 6 months ago and it would break or shut down every 3 weeks. They finally replaced it with some POS LG droid phone. I want the EVO 4G. Hear that thing is tits.

My D1 lasts about 14hrs using it to check mail, text, facebook, etc, I have to charge it every night. If I play any game on it the battery life cuts to about 3hrs max. I was on it yesterday waiting at the docs office from 830-12 on and off and battery was at 5% after I left. Only thing I hate about it, that and the keyboard on the D2 is hella better.

Looks like dem Droid 2's still be expensive son. :/ Hate to feel like I'm missing out on the Keyboard but I don't have that kinda $$ to spoil myself with. The rest of the info is appealing tho.

youll be happy with the D1, besides if you got what you wanted now youd have nothing to look forward to when you get it in the mail and find its not as cool as everyone said.

Looking to get a keyboard DBZ, I hear good things tho. + Thats a interesting approach Nate haha prob wouldn't of thought of it like that. Tho, if I can get a pretty penny for my Eris, I wouldn't have too much trouble paying for ze Droid II. problem is, i can't sell my oldie until i get my new phone or ill be out of a phone for a momento

Me & my gf share a plan on Verizon.....I just upgraded my Blackberry Pearl to the new LG Vortex (which has Android firmware).........completely irrelevant to your thread, but I like my Android based phone.
