Draining too much from amp

I have two Kenwood 300w amps, and maybe after about 1 complete song, they get burning hot then shut off for a period of time then start working normally. They're in a the trunk of a hatchback, and i put the two rear seats down to make sure its getting some sort of ventilation, but it really doesnt help. Any reason why they get so hot, so quick?

what subs do you have? what coil config and how are they wired? sounds to me you are trying to run the amp below what it is capable of
I have two Pioneer 10"s....120w RMS 450w Max, in a double sealed box. They hit hard, but after a really good bass song, they get really hot.

what are the voice coil ohms? are they dual 2 or dual 4 ohms? how do you have them wired? sounds like a classic case of improperly wiring the subs. also do you have specs on the amp? not familar with those off hand

Well I did have the info on the speakers, but Pioneer decided to not keep the specs on older speakers. Same for Kenwood....they are KAC-303, but they didn't keep anything on older amps. These aren't brand new...a few years old.

As for wiring....i didn't do it myself...so it'll have to wait for a few hours till morning

imo i think your subs are wired wrong, but without knowing the coil config or how they are wired, can't say that is it or not. another possibly is your gains are set improperly. you'll need a dmm but you'll have to impedance to properly set them

i'm not sure what a dmm is, but gain wise, the bass is at +0 and sounds awesome, treb @ +5, mid @ +5, but the amps have a filter so the mid and treb shouldn't bother it

i'll check the wiring when i get up later

digital multi meter. gain or input sensitivity is used to match the input voltage with the headunits output voltage. it isn't the bass knob or a volume knob //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
