You want to be spit out of the boat if it happens to blow over. If he had stayed in, boat boat hitting the water would have snapped him in two.

some boats do, some don't, any boat that runs in a class faster then 7 second, sits in a break away capsule such with a oxygen supply if they get knocked unconscious.
