im building a 2@38 for a 12" hd3, and was going to double baffle it. after looking at it though, im wondering if that 1.5" of mdf is going to seal the backside of the cone from the internal box too much? ive included a pic of a single piece of mdf so you can see what im talking about. can this affect anything?

only can be good for you man, no flex=good single baffle with that sub i know will flex alot of pressure comes up to the top when the sub is playing, double baffle dont affect anything if anything it improves performance.

you will be fine.
1.5" is way more than enough unless its a HUGE box.

if you do double it, like he said, flushmount the sub and best of both worlds.
im thinking flushmount might not give the kind of support i may need for a 50lb sub mounted on its side

u still get the same effect with flushmounting it only way to go, but remember its a biatch to get out
just make sure your cut on the second piece is large enough to get at the screws on the sub. mount the sub to the first piece of wood like you have it, and then make your cutout on the second piece larger than the original hole so you can still get the sub out.

i think what he was saying was you cant get under the sub to pry it loose from the wood when its flush mounted.

he knows to make the second od on the baffle bigger lol thats flushmounting, im just saying once its flush mounted its hard to get out cause u have nothing to hold on too, you just gotta pry it out with a screwdriver or something.

I have 2 15" HD3's in a 8 cube box and the top plate is double baffled. It has not affected the performance at all. If anything it just makes the box sturdier when they really get pumping. And how i know it has not affected the performance is because I went from 4 Orion P Series 15's in a 15 cube box to 2 AQ HD3 15's in a 8 cube box, both setups seeing the same amount of power, 2 Viper 1200's, and the 2 HD3's walk all over the 4 P Series in all aspects, with each sub only seeing 1200 watts. So in my opinion no it will not affect the performance or output it will just ensure that your box is sturdy enough to handle these monsters.
