ok, i live in a dorm and my current surround sound is some cheap $40 setup from wal-mart (durabrand) and im lookin at the dayton 120 sub/amp combo......it seems to be a great bang for the buck setup.....my questions are what else do i need to run this? i have 5 satellite speakers from my current system i could use until i can upgrade to some better ones.....so is it possible to run the dayton 120 w/these speakers and still use it w/my computer/dvd player/vcr etc.?? thanks in advance!!!

If you just want to upgrade subs, to hook it up you will just take the "Sub Out" on your receiver into the low level inputs on the amp in the Dayton 120 sub. If you don't have a sub out, just use the high level inputs on the amp.

Umm... apperently youll need a receiver because those speakers are self powered. so youve got to get a receiver to power those crapass speakers. then get the sub-120 and hook it up to your receiver.

But if i walked in to you dorm room and saw those speakers hooked up to any kind of receiver with a sub-120 i would have to give you a full on biotchslap.

Heres what you need to do:

1st: destroy those speakers you have to stop them from hurting anyone ever again. my favorite method it plugging them into a wall socket, but anything will do.

2nd: Buy something new.

Im not sure what your budget is, but for 140$ i would skip the sub-120.

For your needs i would just pick up a home theatre in a box type thing or something.

these will have way better bass response than you current stuff, and then if is doesnt you could easily add a sub to it.

Buy 2 Fostex FE103E drivers, ~30 bucks a piece

Build the Back Loaded horn design on madisound's website for them.

That will be PLENTY for a dorm room, decent sounding low end (for what they are), and it dosen't take much power to get them loud.

That is how I feel when I look at a lot of people's setups, including a lot of people on this forum lol.....
