alright for the past few months i've been practicing boxing, don't have a trainer and it's just in my garage, but i've got the footing and basically everything down lol. tomorrow me and some friends are gonna do some amateur boxing. For some reason when i get in front of someone with the gloves on i just can't throw a punch at them, i've never personally been punched though. I get a feeling like i don't want to hurt anyone but i do intend to be a boxer, any ideas as to how to get over this phobia?

Pork one of your friends girlfriends and then tell him about it. I betcha he wouldn't mind punching ya out!

Then you will be pissed or have to fight for your life, so win win situation. Plus you got to hit that piece of *** you have always been thinking about.

You owe my 99 dollars and a bish ain't one of them!

Once you have seriously been hit you will not want to be hit again. Just remember whoever you are fighting wants to try to hurt you as bad as they can. I've been boxing for 6years nothing big just some amateur shyt. When I first started I was afraid to get hit it was fear of the unknown. Once I took my first hit I was fine and my goal was to hurt my opponent as bad as I could. Maybe your not ready to box yet. I would atleast box with your friends first take some real hits and see if this is what you really want to do. Hopefully you do well man goodluck.

I've been hit and the hardest was when I was a kid, which resulted in me seeing stars. For overall impact it was being an a wreck at 40 MPH as I got t-boned in my first car. No seatbelt but all I got was a tiny scratch. It felt like getting blindsided in a football game...LOL! All in all, once you get over the fear of being hit, it's not a big deal to hit back as you will know they'll feel about the same as you did, which is to say you'll rock their world a bit but they'll get over it as you will.

Sorry that you didn't have more rough play in your childhood. That would have cleared up any phobias about hitting and being hit. Now you'll have to make up for it and that could be some fun...LOL!

x2, I hate getting hit, most of the time you got to think, that that one hit may be the knock out. So I would just avoid it, ducking and dodge while being fast at throwing punches. It is funny how most of my friends think I cannot fight. I am small but got alot of strength though. But usually I win most of my fights. I have gotten my *** beat a couple times, but I have never had a fight where I have not done damage to someone. Now I try to refrain from fighting, as I might **** up my wrist again, or maybe my shoulder which always happens as they are close to healing up.

I used to do a little amature boxing myself. It ALL changes when you get in the ring for the first time. I thought I was hot shit jumping round the bag..then they put me in the ring. First off, they strap a big, unyieldy head gear on your ***, then throw in a mouth piece, so you have drool constantly running down your chin. Then they strap on gloves that weigh at least 1/3 more than the practice mitts your used to. The bell rings, and then you have adrenaline to deal with. Spazz out in the first 2 minutes, then pass out on the mat after the bell rings. At least thats how my first few matches went. If you can work through the shock and awe of the initial month or so of steady practice matches, you might have something:p After a while you'll learn to pace yourself, and get a handle on your adrenaline. Remember, it's all about points, and how many blows you land, not throw. I've seen dudes run in and spazz out on our club contenders for the first 2 rounds, throw 100's of blows, but land hardly any. Then in the 3rd round, when dudes pratically jello, our guy comes in and hits him solid, 3, maybe 4 times, and wins the match.

i'm looking into getting into boxing what would be the first steps to get ready? i'm 6'4 260. so let me know
Jump Rope. Jump for 3 minutes, rest for 2. Repeat 6-12 sets to warm up depending on your ability. Exercise your neck: Lay flat on your back, raise your head so your chin touches your chest, repeat in reps of 10 or so. Do the same thing turning your head left, touching your cheek on the mat for another 10 reps, then finish with the right side. You'll probably want to do some jogging as well. I assumed boxing was mostly about strength when I first got into it. You'll quickly realize it's much more about cardio and stamina then anything else. You want to do warm-ups and exercises that maximize your stamina (so you can last more than 2 rounds) and build muscle in your upper body to be able to take, and recover from punches.
