Snack cake killing brings 25 to 65 years

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- A man was sentenced to 25 to 65 years in prison Tuesday for killing a cellmate he suspected of stealing his snack cake.

Benny Rochelle, 19, was convicted of second-degree murder last month for the November 2006 death of 46-year-old Jose Estrada.

Rochelle was in the Kent County jail on a drug-related charge when prosecutors say he discovered his Honey Bun snack cake was missing. He dragged Estrada from the top bunk of his bed, sending him crashing headfirst onto the concrete floor of their jail cell.

Estrada died two days after leaving jail.

quite the margin. i dont understand the purpose of this.

Seems like the kid was already in trouble as it was, and by that accounts sounds almost like an accident unless he did more after dragging him out of the top bunk.

If this were to happen more often at least people would think twice about stealing something no matter how big or small it is. Sucks that somebody died, but it was pretty avoidable by not stealing.

Kind of crazy sounds like the guy just went to give him an assbeating for stealing his snack cake the dude fell and hit his head resulting in death.

Those of you who have done any time realize when you are locked up if you don't stick up for yourself the abuse only gets worse. If that is the story then I think the sentence was a bit stiff and something along the lines of manslaughter (death not on purpose) would have been better.
