Dog Broke RCA Inputs!

Hey everyone

The RCA Inputs need to be replaced on my Zapco 1500 XM amp. My dog tripped up on the cord when in my truck the other day and yea now I need to replace the inputs. I contacted Zapco as it is under warranty but they want $90 just to look at it, plus parts/labor and shipping.. $125 at least im sure. That's a lot considering the amp itself only costs $300 and is otherwise in mint condition, only 4 months old.

Is this a repair I can do myself? Are the parts easy to order? I've never worked on amps before but i'm mechanically inclined I'm sure I could do it but is it practical?

Anyone out there know of anywhere that would replace the rca input set on my amp for a decent charge??

You should be able to get one from parts express and re solder it on the board

You should consider tucking the cables.

It's a relatively simple solder job. Open it up and find an acceptable replacement on parts express, digikey, or jameco. Then bring it to any half decent electronic or appliance repair shop. It shouldn't take more than ten minutes

that doesnt look too bad at all, you just need to make sure you have two hot solder points for the signal and the reference. looks like the prongs are still there and not broken off with part of the board.

Well I got an email back from Zapco, I asked if they could do it cheaper given the rest of the amp is in mint condition. and 1/3 the cost of a new amp for a simple repair seemed like a lot.. I was told send it in and include $45 flat. Hmm might just be worth it to have Zapco do it? Will the warranty be void if i do it myself?

Also I have all of the wires run really nicely however the rca's were just a tad short and didn't allow me to run them like i wanted so instead they just barely make it and run straight across. I did have plastic clips holding the wires tight in place but the plastic broke over time and I didn't notice until my dog ran into the wire bundle yesterday and it broke the rca //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
