I recieved speakers for christmas to put into my 1987 buick park avenue. It has a bose sound system but its from 1987 and I was wondering if new speakers were even worth it if the wiring was so old.
oh boy. This is just the start my good fellow. You will be addicted. Get those speakers on an amp and you will be impressed. Without the extra power from an amp, you wont notice much of a difference except they will sound better. Installing an amp will help them get loud and bring them to life.
Plug them in and try them. I have an '85 Oldsmobile and the speaker wiring is still fine for head unit power. If you decide to add an amp in the future that's when I would consider running new wires.
Factory wiring is generally adequate. Running new would be best, but you likely won't hear the difference and snaking wire into doors is generally a fantastic pain in the arse.
Holy cow. Well I'm sure even those speakers will sound better than the factory ones. New wiring isn't really necessary unless you're going to be running an amp to them. A new head-unit would probably help a lot though.
