does UPS email tracking numbers to you?

I recently purchased a hifonics brutus 1500 off splthunder, he said UPS would email him the tracking number and he would give it to me, im not freakin out or anything but he hasent sent it yet and i thaught it was kinda wierd they would email him a tracking number... wouldent they give it to him when he shipped it ? did i just get scammed? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

UPS has never emailed a tracking number to me, they always include it on the receipt during checkout.
