Does this seem wise?

I have a 5 cube box (after displacements) for an 18" sub. I was thinking about refacing it and inverting 2 OA 15's in it. OA says minimum of 2.5 cubes each ported for their 15's. so I'd be at the minimum requirements, but would they do that much better in a slightly larger box? Power would be SAZ 2000

If I'm not mistaken, those 15s are rated at 600w RMS?

If so, then you need a smaller cabinet since you'll be running them overpowered. And as long as your tuning is correct, they will reach the lows and be loud. Only thing a larger box will get you is a little bit louder at the same tuning and a bit better low end extension... but that comes with the sacrifice of lower power handling for the subs.

Since you're sending them 2KW, I'd stick with the smaller cabinet. Not to mention... you already have it.

im soo glad i have no desire or.need to get louder ...ppl chase it forever
Indeed and doing so often end up sounding like crap. Instead of admitting their daily driver that does a 155 at 40hz on tones and falls off like a rock below 30 and above 50 sounds like crap, they just think the need to get "louder" than they will be happy. Not realizing, or letting themselves realize it's their bandwidth on music that's the issue.

Loud is such a relative term. I remember reading his post about the nightshade vs the Xand saying the Z4 gets "lower" while the nightshade is "louder". Guess what getting lower actually is? Both subs can play 25hz, the Z4 sounds "lower" because it's playing it.. LOUDER! Again, it's all relative. When I think loud for daily I just always think of borderline fart boxes between 40-55hz, which is what alot of setups are now-a-days.

The Z4 and X arent' my cup of tea do to their low effeciency, but I still want to try one sometime for fun,

You have a SUV, take your rear seats out and do 2 18's or something.

the X18 did a 145.3 @ kick, door open @ 38hz. the nightshade did a 147.0 @ kick, door open @ 49hz. and my NSv1 15 did a 143.6 @ kick, door open @ high 40's (can't remember for sure). i'm sure two 15's would give me a 147-148, at the kick.

i knew someone was gonna say something about that. i meter both sealed at the glass and kick with door open. the 145.3 at the kick was a 143.5 at the glass. i just don't remember a lot of my sealed scores. the kick scores always seem to stick with me though.
