Does the shape of a sealed inclosure matter? Discussion.

I have been reading around and it seems to be that with subwoofer enclosures it does not matter. However with midrange and up it does. The wave lengths for subs are too long for standing waves to matter. Is that true?

lol wow we have soooo much ess quuu love on this site....

as far as output and having sound in mind whats solid configuration for a sealed box in a trunk?

A sealed enclosure is just separating the front and rear waves entirely and air compression.

What shape do you have in mind?

Feel free to use PM's, I am headed out to work on my car and may not find this thread later.

just get a flat tuned box
Flat in-car and flat out-of-car are two different animals. Making a ported enclosure flat in-car can take a lot of EQ work to even out the cabin gain's effects.

Sealed enclosures' roll off and descending slope tend to combine with cabin gain to give the listener a closer to flat response curve before EQ work. The sacrifice being output and exaggerated low end. The benefits being in-car flat, space, potentially increasing mechanical power handling.

yeah i am looking to save space and increase mechanical handling. its looking like a will be buying a 12 (secret //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif ) that will be going in about .8 or .7 cubes. just have to work our some details on that still

You're not going to know until you test with a meter. Typically even carpeting a box as opposed to painting is going to lose a few tenths.
