Does the "D" in Class-D amplifiers stand for Digital?

Class D is Class D because A, B, A/B, and C were already taken. The amp is not digital.

One a Side Note

You wont find many Digital audio signals in car audio. Beyond the files that we play (the source) most processing units can not process and transmit a digital signal.

That's not to say there isnt digital audio in car audio...it's just that anolog equiptment is cheaper and works fine.

On a side note to the side note.

Using digital audio transfer would be nice in the car audio world. Theoretically you could have 'wireless' amps and have no loss in sound quality compared to high quality RCA cables. Also, it would eleminate induced noise in the signal comming from the input meaning that the main source of noise would be ground loop which is an easy fix, takign the geuss work out of it.

If all signal was tranmitted throughout the car digitally, there would be no reason for ground loops either. Who in their right mind uses digital coax when fiber-optic is an option? No electrical signal conductor between components, no possibilty of a ground loop.

I am an Electronics tech and if you really want to get into all the details about the differance between all amps, pm me. And no class D is not digital. Sorry if this has already been posted, not trying to sound like some wiz or anything, just know about the amps.
