Whats the difference between 1 through to 8 ohms in terms of speakers, quality, Decibel levels, distortion e.t.c?

I had someone tell me that most car speakers are 1 or 2ohms, but more is better?

They didnt say why.. was just wondering if they were wrong or right and if so please explain..

in simple terms ohms is pretty much resistance, and amps generally put out different watts at different ohms. basically ohms tell an amp what to run at. example. you have a dual 2 ohm sub. your amp does full power at 1 ohm. you want to wire the sub in parellel for a final 1 ohm load to get the most out of your amp. ohm's have nothing to do with sound alone, and quality of the speaker. generally most speakers, not subwoofers, are usually 4 ohms, or 8 ohms. a few are 2 ohms and almost none are 1 ohms.
