As far as I can tell, anything on a roll came from a roofing materials manufacturer. It doesn't mean that the adhesive formula might not have been tweaked for sound deadening, but putting aluminum colored Mylar or any plastic on a material that needs constraining to function is like painting a rock gold and then trying to melt it down to make jewelery. Any deadening mat you buy that comes in a roll is roofing mat'l? I did not know this. I do notice that some deadener companies ship in rolls, where as my SS mat has come in flat sheets. *shrug* As always, thanks for the info.

Not exactly. Anything that comes on a roll was almost certainly made on equipment designed to make roofing products and roofing products have thick adhesive and thin facings. Thick foil doesn't roll well. Actually, that's not exactly right - all foil comes off a roll, it just doesn't roll up nicely again once it has a thick adhesive bonded to it. 3M makes a vibration damping tape with 12 mil foil and an adhesive layer that is just a few mils thick and it comes on very neat rolls.
