Does the basket matter?

Does the basket matter when it comes to building a sub? I was planning on making my CSX motor a 18, but I think a 15 or 12 would work best in my trunk. I saw an Audiobling basket that would look kinda cool on that motor, but I'm not sure if the basket would effect me when buying a recone for it.

It will affect 1) spider diameter, and 2) clearance.

So yes, it's important to consider what size the spider landing is compared to what recone/spider you will be using, and also if the basket has enough reward clearance to allow for excursion.

Also structural rigidity....if it's strong enough to support the motor you plan on attaching.

Yeah, and if you are going to use a large motor then you need a basket that will not give with all the weight.

YES the basket matters.... you can't have a 12" sub with an 18" basket dummy.... DUH! J/k

distance from spiders to cone also affects lateral stability. Baskets like the W7 are tall for that reason because they also have wide spiders to allow for longer xmax. wider spiders have less literately stability so the basket height compensates for that without having to use stiffer spiders.
