does Sub placement matter in ported box?

Would it matter if i put the sub on the left/right side in this box:



does it matter whether the back of the sub is facing the wall of the vent vs. the back wall of the box?

sry for the noob question, im pretty new to the enclosure building/designing stuff

if the depth allows, i would install the sub closer to the out side port opening towards the left side of the enclosure.

I much rather have the drive pressurerize the enclosure, before the air is being forced out the port, rather then have the driver force air down the port before pressurization takes effect.

i really don't know of the effects of either or, which im assuming it could be an unpredictable frequency response.

thats what i though too, on the left side if you looking straight at the box (with the port being the front). I just wasn't sure if their were any adverse side effects from putting it on the right side.

If anyone knows for sure whether their are any negative effects from putting it on the right your input is appreciated.

for the top 2 that responded, is that "right" if you looking straight at the box?

Totally doesn't matter. The only way it might would be if the sub was super deep and the motor interfered with the mouth of the port, but then it would also be too deep for the other side as well so the design would not work at all. The Sub pressurizes the air in the box, the pressure is what causes the air in the port to move. It doesn't matter where the sub is in the enclosure.

Im basically trying to make a ported enclosure with a small of depth as possible. say the front wall of the port was 6 in deep, from the front of the enclosure, and i had a sub with a depth of 6.5in. If sub enclosure looked like the one above and with the sub inside the box (on the right if looking straight at it) and their was a clearance of 4" between the side of the back of the sub and the beginning of the port, would that interfere at all with the port?

sweet, that was the answer i wanted to hear.

the port i would want to use would be roughly 2" wide and the sub would actually be a little farther away than 4 inches, so if it doesn't effect anything (any audible difference anyways) than thats great.
