Does power affect sound quality?

This is my last response and with subwoofers its a whole different story. For example I give me dc xl 800 rms and then bump up to 1500rms there is no way in hell it will only change by 3db. I'm giving it 1300-1400 right now and it does not move very much, wth do you think would happen with less it would sound better and perform better?
Yeah, it could only change 3db. It's a law of physics. You're obviously not educated on the subject. You should read up on it. If you double your power or double your cone area, you have a theoretical MAXIMUM of +3db. The cone "moving" is dependent on the enclosure and frequency played as much as power applied. You REALLY need to read up before you continue trying to "help" people.

ok thanks bro.

All subs will not handle there rms rating continuously.. If you played a 300 wrms sub at 300w on a test tone it would burn up in 24 hrs. Kicker and most ce rated sub only test forr 8 hr or less on a testtone to get there ratings so tbat being said your subs will last longer on a lower rms rating. Running your subs a little below rating wont hurt them and the performance of 100 watts of the top ratings would equal a minimal loss in dbs.

In my experience, more power helps to bring better dynamics at low volume as far as sound quality goes. But, you may not be able to crank it as loud for fear of damaging the speaker. With proper tuning and install though, more power/less power shouldn't be your determining factor in ur SQ.

That being said, I'm starting to really ignore a speaker's power rating altogether. Doesn't seem to mmean much unless you're playing nothing but test tones. Music is too dynamic.

^^ makes lots of sense! also would help a lot if you could hear distortion which most people now and days cannot tell the difference when a speakers sounds nice and clean and when its basically distorting bad!!
