Does port location matter?

In my 4runner I had the port on the top of the box with the subs facing back. With the windows up you could barely hear the bass. With the windows down, it was loud as hell. I then changed the box up a bit and had the port facing the same way with the subs, and it was loud with windows down or windows up. just my experience so far... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

the only thing that it will affect is the timing that it(rear wave) meets the front wave. If they meet at the wrong time they will cancel out each other. So depending on your car and box placement it will be different. However I would not have the sub facing the rear and the ports firing directly into the cabin...

I'm going to highjack this thread too.

Would you get cancellation with a long box (truck box) sub on one end and an external port coming out the center of the box firing the same way as the sub?

I think that would be fine. Just don't make my mistake of having the sub behind me and the port firing up in the center directly towards my right ear. Pain my friend. No lows and excrutiating highs (70-120 hz). Oh I have heaaches thinking about that nightmare of a box.
