Does Pioneer HU work with ignition off?

Most radios work with the ignition off. I got a nice Pioneer DEH 6300SD to put in the back of my campervan connected to the leisure battery. It's got an SD card slot and the rear speakers can drive a sub. Testing it out on a PSU it works but won't switch on when the ignition lead is disconnected, which means I'd have to put a pretend ignition switch in and remember to switch off. The **** thing draws 0.14 amps even when it's off so I can't leave IGN lead permanently connected.

Do Pioneers work with ignition turned off? If they do why is this not working? (IGN wire left floating). I could just plug it in to the van harness to find out but I'm lazy.

Really? That's ridiculous. I've got one in my VW and a JVC in the van that both switch on without the key. Why can't they leave things alone? I don't want to leave the ignition switched on just to listen to the radio.

The unit draws 140mA from the battery connection if the ignition lead is connected and the unit is off. It draws 600mA when on, even with no sound. Don't ask me what it's doing with all that. When you disconnect the lead (ignition off) it drops to 4mA. Stupid things.

OK it looks like I'll have to have a stupid switch on the ignition lead. I'll put a flashing LED on it to remind me to switch it off. Grrr!
