Does my current ported box ****?

Hello, I'm having some second thoughts on this 'TCAB' box mark made me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif It doesn't seem to transition very well on certain songs, is sloppy sometimes, and the lows aren't THAT crazy. I wanted some more output and better SQ from this thing, but most importantly, better SQ if possible with better lows, and the same 45hz+ region.

I was wondering if you guys could tell me if my current box sucks..and if I would gain anything from switching to the recommended design by sound splinter.

First pic is simply showing my current box's specs and a freq graph.

This other one shows my current box (Green), and my planned box built to SS's specs in (Blue)

I also figured the new planned box would sound more natural bec it is staying in the +/- 3db limits.

Thanks all, David.

Well, as you can see, you may lose a lot in the 45 hz+ area but you may gain a lot in the 30-40hz area. But those graphs mean nothing because that isn't your woofer, and that isn't the environment of your vehicle.

Two things are wrong however. Give it more port area - 13 sq in is too small for even a 10. You want around 16 sq inches per cubic foot of net volume. Which leads me to the second thing - you need more volume. Give that woofer around 2 - 2.5 cubic feet of net volume.

yeah, I will tell you all about boxes too small and port area too small, i'm fighting with that right now...

anyways...

these guys have it all right, so follow their examples and run with it!

Thanks sean, you've helped lots. I gottcha on the port size since it would be stupid to choke a woofer of air like that, but I just never figured out how to calc. port area, and how much you need.

I'm gonna have someone build me the new box, but the problem is keeping it within the size of my small trunk and still sounding good. However, I'll keep those parameters in mind for when I get the balls to build my own box someday...Now I wonder who will buy this TCAB box..lol
