Does DSL **** that bad or am I missing something?

yeah I get the speeds I pay for.
Cable would definitely be faster if less people in your area were on it.

That being said, I'm pretty sure comcast is going to start capping data...I read about it somewhere, it was something to do with "capping" something.

Just like all the cell phone companies "capping" unlimited data. Unlimited now means 5GB a month..
They are capping it at 250GB of downloads a month, I download about 30GB a night to my home PC for my server backups so I will be looking for alternatives if they bump me off or I will have to just get a dedicated server box for it.

Hello Guys/I need to ask a few questions or so about my Computer.First off,PLEASE,I don't understand the *Technical Lingo or am Computer Savy/:( *,so be patient.I won't ask a million questions,I promise.

If I wanted to get a new Internal hard drive for my computer...can it be gotten? I'd let Best Buy [Where we bought it] install it.Could the amount of Hard Drive space be Increased,w/a new hard drive? Or should an External Hard Drive do the same?

Lately it's everyday when I turn it on,there are *New Updates are ready to Install*!WTF...Everyday/:confused:.About a month or so ago,I had 91% space left on the Hard Drive.I think it has two.Now I only have 80% on the main, and 9%on the other.A person uploaded approx. 200 pics off our camera that were already on there awhile back/:furious:.

We have *DSL* through Frontier. The 'puter is an HP Pavilion a6030n PC.

It has 320GB Hard Drive 2048MB System Memory/LightScribe w/Windows Vista Home Premium. We've only had it about 1-/2 yrs.Freakin' thing was like $1150.00.

I don't open things up,I'm not familiar with on the Internet...so if you could help *alittle*...we appreciate it.We live in Upstate New York.Thank You for your Time/Help/Response and Patience.

Kind Regards/

Raymond
You can get internal but it may cost you $50 or so to get installed by someone unless you have someone in your family or a friend who can do it.

Do you have a lot of **** on your computer? 320 is quite a bit of space to use up if you are not downloading all kinds of music etc.

As for Windows updates just let them run, you can actually click on that window and setup your updates to automatically install and reboot for you when it's done.

I'm satisfied with my DSL. I hate the ****ing cable companies. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

I pay $28 per month(no taxes) for 1900k down and 500k up on a dry loop DSL from AT&T.

I pay like $64 a month though and about $130/mo with cable //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
I was paying $67 a month for my comcast and had 5500k down and 300k up..... if sucked.

I have an unsecured business network next door though that I use for uploading large files. 32000k up. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Update everyday when I turn on the computer. It's not just one update..but anywhere from 2-4!!.

I do appreciate you responded with *Your Help*.Maybe it's time for me not to have the damm Computer anymore.I'm not that good w/it anyways...It seems like one has to go to Harvard and have a *Master's Degree* just to turn it on.

Cable is faster period ...we carry more bandwith in the coaxel cable ....now a day theres really no need to have fiber to the curb ...the HFC system is so much smaller and we run much higher freq across it now ...we have what we call direct fiber links ...to hospitals,tv statio etc ...its a much tighter system now ...and yes i do work for a cable company
See post #11.

Are you telling me that a copper coaxial cable is faster than a fiber optic line? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif Most high speed provides have a fiber optic internal structure, but once depolyed to the customers, do run off of coaxials as they are cheaper at the moment and do provide enough bandwidth for the average user. Eventually we will see fiber optic to the home, and that'll be insane, and then the speed you get will depend on your equipment at home/work/where ever.

Like the bus system on computers, the processors and ram may be the fastest in world, they can only be as fast as the bus system will allow thus reflecting the performance of your computer...

If you have a fiber optic line then yeah...cable would be WAY faster.

I guess reading wouldn't help since you guys can't read. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

It's only available in certain cities //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif
it's in both cities right next to mine, but teh AT&T still has a lock in my neighborhood //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Yeah after seeing that post I tried to stay out of this thread. I work for Comcast as an Engineer. I've never heard any of our techs say some crap like that. Fiber is better period. The reasons why have not been stated yet in this thread, however.

BTW Fiber to the home is only the transitional phase of the new technology. Wireless feed is the new thing in the works.
