could be phase differences due to path lengths in the front vs. rear. in the front the difference is greater and thus phase interference occurs and is obvious. in the back seat the difference is much less and out of the problem range you are having. that's one possibility.
to test, use balance to one side and see if the peaky response goes away. if not, it's a problem with the speaker install.
