Does AWG make a big difference?

Basically I have a 500a2 and I'm running 8 AWG to ground and power. The 500a2 has 8 AWG terminals.

Today I recieved my 1100a2 and it has terminals for 4 AWG, but I wanted to see if it works so I hooked it up to 8AWG, and boy was I dissappointed...

The 500a2 was bumping my sub WAY louder then the 1100a2 was...

So my question is... Will you notice a big difference from 8AWG and 4 AWG?

did you have the amp set up right? Gains mainly. It may have come with everything turned down.

Yes I played with my gains and crossovers and it still didn't satisfy my needs //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif I guess we will have to wait till i get some 4AWG wire and hook it up with my w7

Yes, definitely want to run 4 or bigger. I run 10 gauge for my sub speaker leads.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

If you have a bigger amp in the same model line they should have about the same efficiency but the 1100 should have more capacitors inside and always beat out the smaller amp on the same size wiring. 8 gauge is not enough but theres something else wrong if twice the size amp is not as loud as the 500.

Best way I can describe it:

Think of it as if you were running water. The bigger the line the more water will be able to flow through it. Same as in power. Bigger AWG = more ability for current to flow. So, of course there will be a substantial difference. Myself, I'd love to have a culvert.......BTW....an easy upgrade for electrical system is to run dual battery setup. Easy to do and less strain on electrical system. Just make sure you use a gel cell deep cycle battery if mounting in trunk, Optima yellow top or blue top.....no red tops.

it does make a huge diff yes indeed also keep in mind the length of the wire also comes into play
