Does anyone do tweeter repair? Dead tweeter from Boston Acoustic Pro Series 6.5(3)...

I have a set of Boston Acoustic Pro Series 6.5(3) components that were given to me by a friend. I love the speakers, and would like to incorporate them into my Syclone build. However, one of the tweeters is pretty messed up:

Contacted BA and they said I'm out of luck on a stock replacement. They suggested an alternative set, but I would like to see if anyone does tweeter repair. I know subs can get repaired, so why not tweeters, right? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Alternately, if someone has a single tweeter from these speakers they would be interested in selling, I'm all ears //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Thanks!

You can fix them yourself with a tiny fish hook and some super glue. Bend the hook straight and stick it in the middle of each bump, pull it up then out, ofcourse itll leave a hole there but you fill it in with a tiny dab of super glue. I worked at best buy and had to fix the display tweeters like this all the time.

If youd like to buy new, check out Parts-Express.com sells Speakers, Replacement Speakers, Speaker Building Parts plus HDMI Cables, Home Audio and Video, Pro Audio and Commercial Sound. We offer services for Speaker Reconing, Speaker Refoaming, Speaker Repair. Great selection of Elect they have good quality replacements.

Huh... interesting. Is it going to sound ok when I'm done?

since the tweeter cone isnt experiencing much movement. you should be okay. just be very careful with the glue. you dont want excess dropping into the insides.

you wouldnt have this issue with silk ones. hah.

So I think I may have killed it... not sure.

There was a small opening on the side of the fabric surround. I removed the fabric, and as gently as I could tapped the cone back out. However, there is a membrane sort of piece that is about 50% torn now (yellowish orange piece in the pic).

I'm going to try to glue the piece back together, but I see a replacement in my future, since this is going to drive me nuts... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

One interesting possibility is to replace both tweeters entirely. One popular and fairly cheap tweeter set is Seas neodymium aluminum or textile dome tweeters sold by madisound.com. There are tons of reviews of them online, with preference going to the aluminum version it seems. The cool thing about them is that they can be crossed relatively low, which allows them to blend with a lot of woofers. Another popular tweeter is Morel MDT-12 sold by the same web site. The level of these tweeter may not match the old ones, but this could be fixable if your crossovers have tweeter level adjustments.
