Does anybody use A/B for bass anymore?

Yep, Linear Power 5002.
Love my LP's...

I have one all Class AB vehicle that is about to undergo some more class AB changes and I am about to embark on converting my AB/D vehicle to all AB as soon as I decide on which active head unit I am going to go with.

Don't get me wrong though, the compensating circuitry for Class D amplifiers has come a long way since the 90s and some of the newer Ds have a higher damping factor and are way more musical than the original horrors that had power supply switching that you could hear. Now, they even have high voltage Class D like the Stetsom (as well as a couple of others whose names escape me at the moment) that will make serious power at 8, 4, and 2 ohms.

Very very cool, when my pops opened his shop in the early 90's we carried ,

Linear Power, Lanzar, Orion, etc. I remember the days when we did systems that were 1,000 watts, everyone in town knew about it. 1,000 watts WOW!!!

Now 1,000 watts in a fart in the wind

You're right....................it was so awful when you had sound quality AND underrated amps.
What? This doesn't even make sense in context to what I said. I just don't want to upgrade my electrical (very much), so I'm not going to run 2000 watts of class A/B amps.

You left out highly efficient 8 ohm subwoofers too. Sure they took larger enclosures than today..... Then again, they got loud and sounded fairly good off a fraction of the power required to get your typical sub of today moving. The trade off for smaller enclosure subwoofers was efficiency:(

True, forgot about them. Anyway, i remember 150db being a BIG number(early '90s), but back then everyone was tuned to do lows(and actually play music). Always wondered what numbers would have been put up with todays fart box tuning. The numbers jumped drastically later on when people started getting away from music and started going to the higher hz. Good example is the way a 159 bassracer still commands respect, everyone was basically a bassracer back in the earlier days.
