Does amp to sub rms matter if the gains are tuned properly?

I think a lot of people on here may be misinterpreting your question; if you set the gains with a DMM to 750rms like the sub can take, then the sub will be fine. A lot of people on here seem to think that the amp has to be gained to it's max rated power.

What I mean is that with a 100 watt rms sub you could run a 3000 watt rms amp and not blow it if you correctly set your gains so that the amp is only giving the sub 100 watts rms.

Hope that's what you were asking, and hope that I helped.

Welcome to the forum!

I think it's because I put links in those two.

Anyway, four Alpine Type R 15's. They handle 750 watt rms each. I have heard of people running these on a daily basis at 2000 RMS. That seems like too much. I would like to run these at a 1 ohm load but, I can not find a amp that would work. I don't want to go more than two amps. I don't have enough room for more than two.

Does anyone have a recommendation for an amp? I have been looking for two weeks, haha.

Thank you! That's what I'm meaning. Do you have any links to guides on DMM gain tuning?

Thanks again,

Rob

if you have four of them you want to give them 3kw total at least. That's going to require some serious electrical backup too, HO alt and extra batt(s) so keep that in mind. You may already know that of course, I have no idea how much car audio knowledge you have. Keep browsing the amplifier classifieds and I'm sure something will pop up, people buy and sell on here all the time at good prices. As for a specific amp I have no idea, but if you post in the amp section someone will help you out.

Didn't you read my post? If you set your gain with a DMM, you'll be fine.
I think he was just wondering on what to set the gains to, the amp power or the sub power, and if it was set to the amp power it would likely cause damage if the amp was too big. Just needed a little more describing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

It's simple, use a DMM and set your gain settings to the point appropriate for the sub power rating.

vAC ^2 / resistance = wattage rating.

If it's done right, you won't have an issue. Also most major manufacturers suggest/state that 10% more power is absolutely fine.

Yeah, I hadn't read through the rest of the thread. I edited my post because it came off as condescending.

Thanks for all the replies, everyone. Answered my question.

If anyone has anything else to add I would be glad to read.

Thanks again,

Rob
