Does amp to sub rms matter if the gains are tuned properly?

Hi all, my name is Rob. How is everyone?

My question is if you have an amp that has a higher RMS rating than the sub's RMS, does that matter if you tune the amp gains with a DMM or better yet a O-Scope? For example, you have an amp rated at 1000 RMS at 2 ohm and a sub that has a RMS rating of 750, does this matter if you tunes the gains properly to avoid clipping?

Hope you have a good day,

Later,

Rob

Setting the gain with an o-scope will ensure that the amp isn't clipping the signal; it measures nothing related to the subwoofer itself. Therefore, if you have a much more powerful amp, you will have the chance to give the sub too much power, even if the signal isn't clipped.

But, with a DMM, you should be okay.

If that question was for me then, knowing that you have far more power than your sub is rated to handle, you don't won't start turning the volume up so loud to where you are pushing the sub past it's mechanical or thermal limits or both for that matter....remember the magic smoke is a bad thing...hehehe

I run 2000 rms on my 12"s and there rated for 1000 between the two but they take it just fine, day in day out no coil smell or heat build up not that there seeing 2000rms on music anyways.

I want to be able to have more power for future subs without buying new amps but, if those amps are too powerful and hurt the subs then I will definitely back off to a smaller amp. What would you all recommend?

For some reason my other post isn't showing up?
