Does a subwoofers diameter have a lot to do with bass output and loudness?

Okay so it IS a horn. But still, I've seen and messed with a number of horn enclosures, and they're... much more meticulously done than what I'm looking at. I'm sure it sounds loud as hell, but you're not exactly an audio wizard there man.

I agree 100%, like I said, that the box makes a big difference, but you're acting like a box can make a 6x9 sound like a 15.

lol you have seen true horns sure, this isn't a true horn it's an exponentially flared bass reflex. Post what you have, not what you've ''seen''

What I have? LOL I don't have **** all. I have a modest little setup just for daily listening to metal and the occasional rap song. I'm far beyond the days of blowing my earpussies out. Hell I -have- a pre-fab box and I still don't turn it up to 100% volume. I have no use for something of that caliber.

Hell, I'll even go out on a limb and say you -can- make a 10 sound like a 15, but I'm ALSO going to say that that difference isn't world-shattering. People forget that for thumping around town there's no need for a system that can hit 160dB.

So basically your calling people out when you have less?

You do realize your talking to a sq guy right? what is in my car right now is actually about 5-6 years old from when I was into loud. I'll post a build log when I get all of my new equipment in. I should be getting a recone pretty soon. Then you can criticize my build all you want, I'll actually do this one slow and correctly.

I have less because... I'm not interested in more. My days of trunk-filling boxes are over. I've been there, don't care to go back. Like I said, you're obviously a smart dude, but you gotta settle back and realize that you're not the commander of all things, here. Cone size IS important, and that's particularly true when going from a 10 to a 15. End of transaction.

What is this BS? I've seen you say this several times today. Is the box important? Of course, but all things being equal... subwoofer "size" is ummm... a huge determining factor in output. Don't lead a new person to believe that an 8" can do what a 10" can do if they're both in a quality enclosure.
Each step up in the standard sizes is ~ 50% more cone. Usually more power handling. And usually more excursion, therefore making it that much "bigger" in regards to displacement.
I said it once here and once in a thread about power handling where a box is pretty much the determining factor... I wasn't talking about out put with this thread more just that an 8 can do the same as a 15 in the properly built enclosure... But obviously we know which one will be louder...
