Does a more expensive box actually sound better?

I'm looking at a few boxes for my sub, and I see some that are triple the price. What are the differences between a $30 10" box and a $90 10" box?

also I'm currently looking at 3 boxes right now for a vibe audio ba-10 with a 1 cu ft min and a 1.5 cu ft max. I'm looking for sq I don't really care about loudness

1.0 cu ft $32

1.5 cu ft $32

mtx 1.3 cu ft $40

any recommendations?

Build a custom one (have someone here design one for you)...Trust me i went through a pre-fab sealed...pre fab ported...and then built my own...when i tell you there is a world of difference...i mean what i say.

if they are both prefab boxes there is hardly a difference. for that price someone could build you a nice custom one that would blow those out of the water. or build your own. wood is 30$ a sheet.

Jus build your own. Cheaper and will definitely be better than the pre fabs. Plus gives you a little more experience

No, the price has nothing to do with it. Does a professionally designed one for the specific application sound better? Absolutely.

I don't know how to build anything and the only guy I know will charge way more than the 40 that I can get the mtx for

you can get half sheets at some places.. for a 1cft box thats all you will need.. if you are doing a perfect 12x12x12 box its easy as cake.. circle saw/ jig/clamps/ wood glue will get the job done

I thought mine was going to be garbage too...but 2 hours and a six pack later i was in business.

i pushed and i pushed , he finally listened. and i guarantee he will never go back to prefab , aint that right germ???

wait , you want a sealed box????? just go prefab , buy a tube of silicone to seal it good and you should be straight. no need really for custom if your going sealed with a low power sub. 1.3 cubic feet sealed is 1.3 cubic feet sealed no matter how you cut the cake , maybe add some interior bracing but if you decide to go ported , custom is ALWAYS the way to go.

of course thats on the other end of the engineering spectrum than just a daily beater setup.

Yeah, going with sealed because from what I've read it's the best for sq. So if I do get the prefab should I go with the $40 mtx or the $30 no name brand

Dnt matter just buy some extra caulk and reseal the entire inside of the box and you should be good to go.

Prefab sealed boxes will sound just as good as a custom one. All you need to do is make sure its the right size, grab a bag of polyfill if needed, and make sure you seal off all the corners. The issue with prefab sealed boxes is that almost all of them are not sealed right in the corners so they have air leaks.
