who all believes in an afterlife? Do you believe in heaven and hell?
I have decided if trying to be a good person and lead a life that uplifts humanity is not enough by itself to get me into heaven, then I don't want to go to heaven. I think the additonal requirement of AND believe in Jesus and those other semantics is rather ludicrous and makes getting to heaven a dog and pony show versus actually benefitting humanity.

Some churches are like that. There are plenty that teach expositorily....that is, straight out of the Bible, seeking to explain the text in a way that applies to us today. If you teach straight from the Bible, then there is no room for interpretation of the principles set forth by God himself. God made the rules, not man.
I guess if you think God wrote the Bible. I do not believe this to be true.

Let's not get this twisted. This country was founded to make money, not to practice religion. And the men who eventually made the colonies into a nation weren't even christians, they were deists.
There were many more Christians than deists... Don't you think that God in His sovereignty could use the men who established this nation whether they believe in Him or not. Deists are the same as modern day people who know there is a God but think they are to smart for the bible.

The entire point of our nation is to support Israel. That is the only reason America is the powerhouse that it is. If we turn our backs on Israel then you can bet on it that America as we know it will disappear.

The bible suggests no such thing. In fact the bible doesn't call a day until the 4th verse in Genesis. Plus who is to say that God did not use evolution to create humans and everything else on this planet. Although scientist did find a six million year old shark still alive not to long ago.......
I'm not saying god didn't spawn evolution. I am simply saying the Bible is not a credible source of human history.

Wouldn't it be simpler for Isreal to support itself?
Israel does support itself. But Israel needed a country with huge power to back it up in 1947 and 1948 when the Israelis got there land back which was pretty close to an impossible task btw.

I don't like the Bible...it has one set of rules for some people...another set of rules that for some reason don't matter any more....etc. Why am I supposed to love God?
That is the difference between the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament was written before Christ was born...it was written to prophesy his coming. There are so many prophesies that had to be met unconditionally that it was the only way to convince the people of that time that Jesus really was the Messiah. The New Testament is referred to as the New Covenant, to be used by us today. It takes some of the concrete, black and white, period specific rules from the Old Testament and gives them a broader, more relationally-centered meaning. And as for the question why am I supposed to love God....nobody says that you absolutely have to love God. A person's love for God builds as they;

1. Give up control and put their faith in God,

2. Learn what God has done for us in spite of ourselves,

3. Strive to know Him more.

No, I am talking about more specific things, such as sleeping with your brother's wife if he should die. Those kinds of things. Give the "unclean" food to the stranger or alien....

The more I learn about God from the conduit of Christianity, the more I dislike him.

there are over 3,000 religions on this planet and only ONE of them

can be right....

I beleive there has to be a god of some sort but I also I beleive religion groups are cults

as for the bible...it is a very good story book written by man and not a god......

way back when man used to worship gold and stone statues

if someone wants to worship a rock or even a man fabricated god all the power

to them...as long as they don't use religion to effect others lives in a negative way

who cares..everyone has their thing

Besides the spiritual parts of the bible that can not be proven, everything in there is true. Many scientist believe that what the bible says it true as far as non-spiritual history goes. They even have television shows trying to explain through science the things that happened in Egypt with all the plagues and everything. Like giant storms picking up frogs out of water far away and so on.

You know the bible isn't the only source of information from the time periods covered in the bible... Some of what the bible says can be found in other documentation.

I believe that organized religion was dreamed up to keep man in line! I would like to think there is a higher power out there, but I have my days where I am unsure. As for the Bible, while there may be many true stories in it, there are MORE stories that have been debunked by science.

Oddly, I grew up Catholic and used to be a good Christian who went to church all the time thinking that some great reward awaited me in the future. Unfortunately, my wife getting sick and subsequently dying caused me to turn against organized religion. Even worse were the Bible thumping religious zealots who tried to get me to join their BS churches after my wife died.
