do cell phones ring when they're dead?

dude, i need to know if someone is beating around the bush.. i keep calling them and around the third ring i get their answering machine. they tell me that their phone is dead but i thought if their phone was dead it would go str8 to the answering machine greeting right away. does anyone's cell phone ring a couple of times even if it's dead?? if your phone is off or out of battery it goes str8 to answering machine when u call it right? if not, please tell me what provider you have. this dude owes me money and piccs up every blue moon and says sorry i didnt get your call call me tomorrow yadda yadda yadda.. help me.

All the cell phones I have had always go straight to answering machine when the phone is dead or off. This has been with T-mobile, At&t, cingular and boost. I know you said if not, but i figure knowing what services do go straight to answering would help too.

Side question, is this just one day he said that, or has this been over a few days?

cell phones fuk up... sometimes i can turn my phone off and call it from my crib phone and it'll ring for about a min, other times i can turn off my phone and it'll go straight to my VM, just depends if the cell phone frequency is still live on the tower

Anyway dial *67 then the number, block your number out see if the person answers.

i did and he picced up once.. thats where my suspicion arised.. ive called again and he doesnt picc it up.. coincidence? all i know is i dont want him to know i have an idea or think he might be bloccing me.

Yeah, if the phone is off or dead (the phone is still off //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif ) then the call will go straight to the voice mail. Also, if the phone rings once or so and then on the phone it usually asks if you want to answer it, if you click no then usually the phone stops ringing and goes straight to your voicemail.

I know if you are on Nextels and you are using the direct connect then a phone call will also go to the voicemail.
