Hello folks,

I have a 2001 miata. My current system consist of:

Apline 9811 HU

DLS Iridium 8.3

DLS CA-23 amp *130rms/ch*

whole bunch of raamat on the doors.

Anyways, the miata have very limited options in speaker placement. Even kicks were out of the queston because there is no foot room. Yah I know not the perfect car to start but I do use this car for track use occasionally. The system sounds ok, but, I feel like it can do much better if I go full active and play with xover points. Pictures show where the speakers are, with the 8inch midbass in the doors. Here is what I plan to make it happen (going full active)

Additional stuff I THINK need:

Audiocontrol DQX for 3way xover and EQ

I just bought a US AMP 4300x (75x4)

I plan to run my midbass with the DLS CA-amp (130rms/ch) and run my mids and tweets with the US AMP 4ch.

By looking at my planned setup can you guys tell me if im missing something or have tips for me? Sorry this is my first time going full active and want to make it go right. Thank you for your time!!!

Also do you guys know where I can get or download the manual for the US AMP 4300x? It happens to be missing a few screws for the power and ground hook, would I be able to call US AMP to purchase it (also the manual if they can). I was looking at US AMPS website and its a horrible site. Can't even find a phone number.. Thanks again!

Nice set of comps. i'd love to get my hands on the 8" as the mounting depth is shallow.

anyways i'd think about putting the midrange in kicks as it'll deepened your soundstage a bit more with the speakers physically deeper.

for HU options, i would getting a h701/c701 combo as you will have full control of each speaker independently.

how much of a budget do you have to upgrade?

The speaker location is the biggest booboo factor about my setup. Kicks are out of teh question unless i make something on the door to make it angle like kicks do for the mids. But i dont have the skills to make that. Also, do you really recommend the a h701/c701 over the AC DQX? I guess what I'm hoping to accomplish is to make it sound better messing with xover points or whatever you guys think would help with this new setup. I hate to face the fact but I think I am doomed from the beginning //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

EDIT: I just looked at the h701/c701 and yah thats out of my price range... Will the AC DQX do the job?

it'll do the job but it'll still have some limitations. you would have to share one set of outputs probably with the midrange and midbass and hence the midrange and midbass path lengths would have to almost the same if you want to achieve a good center image. also you would have to use a combination of the DQX and your amps' on board crossovers to cross them correctly. let's just say you are going to cross the midbass at 80hz and 500hz @ 12db. then midrange 500hz to 5khz. on the DQX you would set the xover pts on the shared set of rca's to 80hz @ 12db/oct and 5khz @ 12db/oct. then you would have to go your amps and on your midbass lowpass your @ 500hz. then go to your midrange amp and then highpass at 500hz. see how much of a pain that is? especially if you are going to constantly mess with xover pts.

it'll do the job, but like i said will have limitations.

Let me get it correct. So with the DQX I will have to share a output say mid with midbass, then cross the mid at a higher frequesncy? I thought I would do this if it was a 2-way front stage crossover? Isn't the DQX 3-way front stage? IE includes bandpass section?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

no the DQX is a 3 way setup not a 3 way front stage. the DQX will lowpass on the sub, bandpass the mids and high pass the tweets only. a 3 way front stage + sub would need to low pass the sub, bandpass midbass, bandpass midrange, and high pass tweeters.

if you still have the passives, then you can probably use a combination of active and passive but your title of fully active wouldn't apply.

Ahh crap why would AC do that arghh excluding a 3way frontstage!??! So now my only other option is the alpine h701/c701?? If so could you direct me to a place where I can get a deal on it???? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Also if you would kindly suggest crossover points and slopes?

I was thinking

tweets= hpf 3.5khz @24dB

mids= lpf 3khz @24dB

hpf 350hz @18dB

midbass= lpf 300hz @12db

What do you think?

yea well not too many people run a 3 way front stage so hence there is a very small market in that, plus the h701 and the P9 combo pretty much have that 3 way front stage market covered. those are pretty much the only two attainable units that will fully control a 4 way front stage from the driver's seat.

i know a dealer that can get it and might give you a deal. pm me if interested.

also i'd think you would like to see this install //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif.

he has a quick statement somewhere in that thread of his xover pts.

WOW man thanks for all the information!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I PM'ed you where to get a sweet deal! Man I almost screwed this up so thank you for throwing the life jacket!

oh also i realized that you had the 8" mids. your xover pts might be different since that guy has the 6.2 mids. but you need to first figure out your processing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif.

also you aren't happy with the passives?

To me it is sounding kind of blah.. like the definition and that kick in the lower mid isn't happening. Also since i have poor speaker placement i hope with the tuning capabilities of going full active will help the imaging (which is suffering pretty bad). Oh and also I get this crazy ringing in my ears its like a crackling harshness I can't explain what it is but i think maybe it's between 5-7khz???

yea that guy said he wasn't happy with the passives and then he went active. once you go active you can never go back to the other thing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif.

i think your tweets and midbass are fine where they are. although the tweeters can be moved up to the a-pillars for a higher soundstage. but i would definately look into moving the midranges into the kicks. just like chuyler1 did. cut holes in your oem kicks and you are good to go.
