just use standard terminal connectors everyone in the industry does it...i solder all connections at the radio, wire to wire etc....but at terminal areas you should used a covered crimp connecter

Soldering is fine. Just make sure you wrap the lead in electrical tape or heatshrink it.

And if it was grounding out you would have no sound at all.
