distortion

i get distortion at high volumes of my 2 pairs of alpine Type S 6.5 coaxials. would it be beneficial to plunk down 200 bux for a 4 channel amp and installation to push about 40 watts to each speaker? or will it make the distortion even worse? kind of a newbie thanks for the help.

do you have the bass turned all the way up? if you get a new amp you can always keep the gains down to where you don't have any distortion, and don't try to play a lot of bass through those speakers. or you could always buy some bass blockers for like $10 and see if that helps, if too much bass is what's causing distortion.

If your running those speak's off the deck then you severely need an amp. They'll distort easily when under powered. The RMS rating has to do with efficiency. They need their RMS to play at their most efficient level. No deck made comes close to putting out enough wattage to properly power good speakers.

uhh no u can turn down the bass on ur HU.
wickedmax - i suggest u look at profile or Us acoustics they have great amps for GREAT prices
Do you even know what you're doing? Turn down the bass on the HV and you just killed the sub frequancies to all of your speakers. What about the sub? Doesn't it need the sub frequencies? 5x7's and 6x9's are designed to play midbass and higher so if you eliminate the sub frequencies from the 5x7's they will play louder and cleaner, without robbing your SUBWOOFER.

nope i have no idea what im doing.

ur statement was "only if you get an amp with a high pass cross over in it. No more distortion."

that is very vague, and not true. Why do u think head units come with digital Xovers, and why do u think there are external Xovers. Even without one ur still not gonna have problems. Adding an amp will do wonders with or without a high pass filter.

Yeah but why buy without when you can get one with. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/banghead.gif.8606515f668c74f6de0281deb475b6fd.gif Lets just say he's lookin to get an amp anyway so he's better off gettin one with highpass filter while he's at it.

first, ur dumb. second, most amps come with hp and lp x-overs now-a-days. Third, if u have all component amps, and ur not using the HU's internal amp...then it is beneficial to zero out the bass, treble, and mid on ur HU. then adjust the gains and x-overs on your amps...this will allow you to get the cleanest best performance from your speakers...and u'll be able to turn ur HU up higher w/o any distortion. But yes, like capone said...as a temp fix...turn the bass setting down a lil...and it won't distort as much on higher volumes. I'd also take his advice on looking into jbl, us acoustics, or profile for good cheap amps. I'd look for at least like 60 watts rms x4.

Yet another rookie tries to be loud with his cracking voice. I will give you a little credit since you said to zero out the freq.'s, you know more than some.

lmao, far from rookie little boy. take a look at yourself..re-evaluate ur self-proclaimed "knowledge" if u can even call it that. then, learn b4 u actually say stupid shit. The more u say, the less i think you know. I deserve ALL the credit...you deserve...ummm...nothing. peace

im a newbie and dont know too much about all of the xovers you fellas are talking about, but i will be getting a sub system soon and want to keep the same brand in amps. but in order to power 4 - 6.5" coaxial alpine type s with 40 RMS each which is better: (im on a budget, but i only want to buy it once, so it's gotta last)

JBL P80.4 w/ 80W x 4 for $150

Rockford Fosgate 301X w/ 72W x 4 for $150

Profile CL640 x/ 75W x 4 for $160

thanx for all the input guys.

i'd leave out the jbl...good amp, but will only give 40x4 @4ohms...the other 2 amps give more power @4ohms for same price. Same with the rockford. The profile is the best value giving you 75 watts rms x4 for $160. that'd be my pick. good luck. peace
