Disappointed with JL 10W3V2

Goodbye!
While waiting for my Mustang Stealthbox to arrive, I decided to take out the 12" Solobaric L5 that I had put in there and give my 2 10" JL Audio 10W3V2 subs a try. Needless to say, I am kind of disappointed in the performance of the JL Audio Subs. It seems as though they don't play as low as I would want them to play and they don't get anywhere near as loud as the L5 did.

Granted, I know I am dealing with two totally different types of subwoofers, but I guess I expected more from the JL Audio subs and it kind of left me disappointed.

For reference, the Solo-baric L5 is in the Kicker ported box whereas the two 10s are in a sealed enclosure giving them .75 cubic of airspace each. Power wise, the sub channel on my Power 1000 is wired to give the JL subs about 300 watts versus the 600 that the L5 was getting. Oh well, at least this setup is temporary.

Well, I could wire them for 1 ohm to deliver more power, but something tells me that I still won't be satisfied with them and I would probably end up overpowering them. I guess I bought into the hype of several individuals telling me that two 10" JL Audio subs would "sound better" than my Solo-Baric L5. Well, my friends were WRONG!

On another note, I am starting to have concerns that I may not be satisfied with the Stealthbox that I am waiting on. Please tell me that a 13w6v2 getting 600 watts is going to sound better than these two JL 10w3v2 subs getting 300 watts. I am going to be pissed if I made a $1,000 mistake.

Yeah, but JL Audio screws you because they WILL NOT sell the Stealthbox without a sub. I went through the same BS when I had my F-150 extended cab. I paid $750 for that Stealthbox.

ETA: Find me a 2005 and up Mustang Stealthbox that is cheaper than $950 shipped to my house, and I will cancel my order and buy it from whoever has the better price!

I looked at the MTX, Scosche, and Q-Logic enclosures that fit in that area and was less than thrilled. The Scosche and Q-Logic enclosures could be had unloaded, but the mounting depth offered by each made it difficult to pick a sub. As for the MTX enclosure, it comes with a Thunder 4500 and I am not exactly a fan of those.

Why dont you make your own box? or have someone build you one just like it, im sure it wouldn't cost you more than 300shipped, the w6 would be around 250. just look around for box builders on this website

The big problem is that Mustang trunks ****! I thought about building my own fiberglass box but I would have to purchase tools in addition to the fiberglass materials. Sure the tools/materials would probably come out cheaper, but there is a slight problem... I HATE working with fiberglass.

Regardless, I figured I would give the JL Audio Stealthbox a try since most installers told me that it is really hard to beat the sound produced by the Stealthbox in the newer Mustangs, even with a custom setup! If I don't like it, I can always return it because of the 30 day money back satisfaction guarantee, minus shipping fees of course.

I am glad that I did not purchase the fiberglass materials and tools make enclosures for the JL Audio Subwoofers to sit in each corner of the trunk. I know I would have just trashed everything after hearing how badly they sucked in the Mustang. I am planning on putting them in my Civic after I receive my Stealthbox, so hopefully they will sound better in there. If not, my younger brother is going to receive some free JL Audio 10W3V2 subs and a sealed enclosure!

10" inch subs arnt known for ripping lows, mainly people run 10s for [sQ]. Get the 12" w3's and you will have the lows your looking for, OR build a custom box made to the woofers expectations and it will hit all the notes and the lows will sound much better im sure. How much power are you running on them?

If you gave those 2 10w3v2 JL subs only 300rms for the 'TWO' of them and the enclosure being sealed,I'm sure you're not satisfied. If you were to give those subs 300 rms each as JL suggests, have them wired correctly, those w3's should be some hard hitting ,punchy, subs.A couple of years ago,I had a pair of 10w3-3-4's,the new kind, wired for 2 ohms in a vented box ,powered by a JL 500/1.They were loud and booming. My friend had the same set up except that he had the 12" version w/vented box,and an Alpine MRD1005 amp wired for 2 ohms[1000 rms @ 2 ohms].Needless to say,he did get lower and louder, but for the 10's,the 500/1 ,vented box..it was stupid loud.Mine was in a 02 Nissan Altima,His............an 03' Explorer. My bass was in the trunk, his, was rear firing in the cab.The SUV set-up's are usually much louder. My friend, the manager of San Diego Car Stereo,is running 2-type "R"'s,vented box in a 2003 Silverado extended cab, with the PDX 1000.1 /150x4,all type'R''s,co-ax's-components,he has the Alpine IVA 205 double din touch screen, plays dvd's,I-Pod,myself,a 2005 Alpine 9847,good solid unit,no screen or video.I like the way mine sounds better than the truck, the SUV also from the shop is louder than both of us.I copied my friends systems because they sounded great, installed. We all have Alpine PDX/ TYPE 'R' set-ups--SUV-4x4,and 4 door sedan.Loud, clean, all have amazing systems, all different---whatever you get make sure you give the sub enough power,or you will never be happy.Alpine50..

Question, can you recommend a combo that will out perform the JL Audio Stealthbox designed for my Mustang? If so, I will take that into consideration.

Based on the research I performed, I can't see myself liking the MTX or Rockford Fosgate Saleen Sub. Not enough output for me. The Scosche enclosure and Q Logic enclosure seem limited as to which sub can be installed.

i think if you do some research on here for a while you are going to be really disappointed that you spent that much on subs and a box. i bought new and used equip from these classifieds consisting of AVN5435, 2 JBL BP and BPX amps, polk momo comps, and 1 12 for less than 900 bucks.

even if you wanted to stick with JL you coulda picked up a 13w7 for like 350 or so on here
