Disadvantages of too much power??

I have two subs (2000 year model 10W6's) rated at 300W rms a piece and I hook them to an amp putting out between 900 and 1000W. I know it's not the best idea but I what are the real dangers of doing it?

How likely is it that I'll blow these?

Can I turn the gain down on the amp to put out less power?

I normally pay close attention to how my subs sound and I will turn the vol down if there is any weird noises.

Reason I ask is i can get the subs for a really good price and I've got an amp available at a decent price as well. I actually wish the amp was rated lower but no such luck.

Thanks.

You could set yoru amp gain to 300 watts and not even worry about blowin them or set em to 600-700 and youll prolly get more output with em with music.
