Dirt cheap / good sound quality system... I need an opinion on the cheap Hifonics amp

I figured Alpine's Type R component set for $135 and Type R 10 inch sub for $89 is one of the best deals going on the internet. I'm really just looking for an upgrade from the factory speakers.

So, I came across this HiFonics amp from onlinecarstereo for $86:

Hifonics Txi 4008

Titan series 400-Watt A/B-class 2-channel amplifier

1/2-Channel operation

400-Watts RMS x 1-ch @ 4-Ohm

200-Watts RMS x 2-ch @ 2-Ohm

100-Watts RMS x 2-ch @ 4-Ohm

Fully adjustable Accu-Cross crossovers, 12db high-pass/24db low-pass

Bass boost: 10db variable bass equalization

I'm not sure what the specs mean but I guess I could get two of them and run 100 RMS x 1 on the front stage and 400 RMS x 1 on the Type R sub. Anyone know if Hifonics amps have a good rep. I saw Boss and Legacy amps for the same price; I've heard those were crap.

$396 for the speakers and amps. Thats got to be a pretty good deal.

I'm looking at the same amp, Probably a tad overrated, Im guessing it does around 85w rms at 4 ohm x2 and 340-350 rms x1.

And depending what coil setup you got on your type-r you might not be able to get a 4 ohm load. Only way to do that is with a DVC 2 ohm wired in series.

Well the Hifonics amps are not good but they are not bad either. I really don't know what to tell you on this one. They are close to rated power at 14.4 and really I guess for the price it is a good deal. If your looking to go cheap it will work and I think you will be happy with it. I started my system with Hifonics Amps but I never liked them so Iswitched soon after.

^^^ppi set is better...also if you bridge that amp its going to be mono instead of stereo...or maybe you dont care....????? but that is a decent setup.....i always buy a amp thats rated higher just so if i want to upgrade..

Spend more now and perhaps you won't want to upgrade a month or so later.

Unless you're a straight bass head, I'd focus on trying to make your front stage as strong as possible. There are tons of good subwoofers out there. For $100, the Type-R is a solid choice, though.

This amp would be enough for two subs, just in case you want to try that in the future. One Type-R will be quite happy. You also get A LOT of power for your money with this one.

For the money, it'll be very difficult to top these Clarion amps.
