difference in a 10'' & 12''

Well we can help you if we have that info posted above as well as what your goal is for your system...
i have a volkswagen rabbit, obviously its a pretty small compact car. The subs/box/amp will go in the back(hatchback). i did measure the dimensions of the back for space for the enclosure.

-My goal for my first system is for the sound of bass to sound nice, crisp, clear and can be loud, but not loud enough to where it makes **** shake and rattle. Loud enough to where i have all 4 windows down and no need to have it all the way up, but yet the car next to me can say "**** he has a pretty nice system!"

-I have a factory stock headunit(so i need an ampkit & a converter)

-My budget would probably be low compare to you guys, since i am a college student and barely paying bills, i have saved up a little bit of money. My budget with sub & amp would have to be around $320. I also have to pay for ampkit and converter, so wouldnt wanna pay more than $50 for both together. Plus i have to pay for the local shop to install the equipment, they charge $80.

Finally i need to buy an enclosure, not sure ported or sealed, im guessing depending on the type of sub and the subs tuning. The local shop is charging me $130 for custom ported and $100 for custome sealed. Honestly with everything added up without the box included, i dont know if i can do a ported at that price.

-The kind of music i listen to are electronic/hip-hop/some rap and some rock.

Anymore information you guys need?

I'm thinking SQL for this guy. In a hatch it would be a waste of good space to do a single high powered sub, plus the budget is limiting for amplification needs. I'm thinking 2 10s Maybe some SSA DCONs with a budget amp maybe an Audiopipe AP1500. Needs at least a true 4 gauge wiring kit for the subwoofer amp. 1 Line out converter for the sub amp. If you are buying the box I highly recommend instead of buying it from the shop maybe have one of our pros build you one perfect for your ride. There is a vendor section in the site...I'd spend a bunch of time talking to the guys on here about the enclosure once you've decided on an amplifier and subs. Ported should suite your needs well.

Anyone here will tell you...the enclosure is everything it is the 90%

On a stock battery/alternator I wouldn't get an amp much more powerful than 1500watts. and if you do get a 1500 amp make sure to do the Big 3 wire upgrade.

If noone bites start a thread state your vehicle, budget, music likes and sound desires like you have and just ask what what people will reccomend for that. I'm guessing most will point you towards a budget 1k-1.5k amp and either 1 high powered 12, 2 12s, or 2 10s

They will give you some good brands to consider.

so (2) 10'' subs would be better off in my compact car than (1) 12'' sub?

dude install it your self and save 80 I was installing at 14 its pretty simple just don't get sloppy and leave wires out all Willy neally
yea i dont think i can do that. i have tried looking for local people to do it for me locally, but havnt found any, just shops that charge a lot.

Take your time, and LEARN..Whats the rush??Rushing creates failure in most cases.Use your Ipod w headphones, for music, while you learn to install and take your time with info on here to help and hands on to understand how to do it,and save some wasted money being spent having it installed.Normally asking a question, and you get an answer pretty quick on here.I see that you are in Station..If you were closer, Id help you for free hands on.Take your time ,and dont rush, and learn.Thats the love, and gratification of this hobby
