Difference between tuning @ 35hz vs 29 or 30hz

I am very well aware of that. I would not listen to them at all for this sub.
If you really want it to perform well with your front stage and if you want it to get low, I would really seal it. Sealed, that sub would destroy the Patrone song and it would definitely get down on Hoods run down.

x2... sealed makes all the low notes shine. I'd think it's the same for your XXX. You'll lose some output, obviously, but gain a much flatter response.

4 cubes will limit the low end quite a bit and put you at a kind of high alignment. RE has NO idea what you want out of your system so why would you blindly follow what they say? They probably put 4 cubes to make people interested in the sub because "it does well in small enclosures because they say so" and I bet it helps keep excursion down which will help with returns.

If you want a thick low end that drops down into the low 20s and can still blend well with your front stage, a sealed enclosure around 9-10 cubes would be great for that. It will still give you a tight sound yet still will allow low end extension.
