i have a audio system in my car right now. image dynamics cx64(92db) front and polk audio db6501(93db) rear,

at 100w rms each speaker { 4x 100w rms }.

i see alot of 2 channel amps coming with 150-200 rms per channel.

what would be the benefit of getting some 150w rms or even 200w rms door speakers??

what is the extra power for ??

it's just a side effect of moore's law, power is getting cheaper. you won't notice any difference with 100w vs 150w, that's a 1.5db gain in ideal situations.

no... it doesnt work that way. in order to get a 1.5db gain you would need to give every speaker an extra 50w.

consider total power instead, 100 x 4 is 400w and 150x4 is 600w. the amount of speakers isnt changing

Quick explanation: Speaker power handling is related to how much bass you expect them to play vs how much heat the speaker can handle before damage occurs or it just cannot get any louder because of power compression. Part of the reason a high power 6.5" speaker usually has a great big motor hanging off the basket is because it takes mass to take a lot of power continuously.
