Edit.. Type R bass. I dont know if you can answer this but ill ask anyway. What does mark do to the PVC to flare it? the Heat gun and a bowl technique or the one where you submerge the pipe in hot oil and push down to flare it? or another secret technique that he doesnt want to share.

I think what you were getting at is why do people use a flared port instead of just pvc? Well, its because the flair at the end stops port noise while a pvc pipe does not.

ohhhhh but if i use a normal 6" pvp pipe,i can still hit high numbers with the rigth box ,power and tuning ??

Yes, and do not worry about the port noise, its not audible in car audio usually.

you might as well save $ and use a slot port if you dont use flared ports.

In one box, I took just *one* of the ends off... and bam, almost 2db out the window... the flare makes a BIG difference.

Even in 2004 when I had a "typical" wall setup... I started the day before finals with a 152.5, and after some PVC to round off all the edges around (not inside) the box... i had a 154.0.
